RCMP investigate fatal motor vehicle collision, Aylesford, N.S.

Kings County District RCMP responded to a fatal motor vehicle collision where a vehicle went off road submerging into the Annapolis River.

Today at approximately 6 p.m., Kings County District RCMP, Aylesford Volunteer Fire Department and Emergency Health Services responded to a report that a vehicle had veered off Highway 1 and into the Annapolis River just east of Aylesford.

The vehicle, found in the fast moving waters of the river, was secured by a winch to a Fire Truck. With water up to the vehicle’s windows, both occupants of the vehicle were extracted by emergency crews and carried to Emergency Health Service vehicles.

Preliminary investigation determined a 76-year-old Digby County man, driving a Chevrolet Impala, may have experienced a medical issue just prior to veering off the roadway. The driver was taken to hospital where he was pronounced deceased. A 69-year-old female passenger was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The investigation into the cause of the collision is continuing with the assistance of an RCMP Traffic Collision Analyst.
