Saturday, November 13th, 2010, Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM), N.S…… Members of the Royal Canadian Police (RCMP), Halifax District, are investigating the theft of a Remington 306 bolt action rifle, with a Leopold 3 x 9 power scope.
It was in a brown leather case and was stolen from the back seat of a red Ford 250 pick up truck, parked on Wilson Lake Drive, between midnight and 7 am. There were also reports of five other thefts or attempted thefts from Westwind Ridge. The RCMP have been conducting an ongoing initiative in the Sackville area and have been doing foot patrols and going door to door, asking assistance from the general public, reminding everyone to remove valuables from their vehicles and lock them at all times, when parked. The City Watch program is also being used to deliver the same phone message. RCMP members have been handing out " Operation Hawkeye " flyers as another reminder. They have also been conducting checkpoints and saturation patrols in what are believed to be the problem areas. This is a direct response to the increasing number of vehicle break ins lately. Thieves continue to target valuable items such as GPS units and lap tops. The majority of these thefts are occurring from vehicles that have been left unlocked. Halifax District RCMP would like to remind people to watch for suspicious activity and report anything unusual to police at 244-7208 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
