Halifax District RCMP is investigating recent thefts that have occurred at construction sites during the month of January.
RCMP responded to a theft of construction equipment from a trailer at a construction site on Hammonds Plains Rd. on January 25. Sometime between the afternoon of January 24 and the morning of January 25 thieves entered a secured trailer and stole a large quantity of tools. Several saws, drills, air guns, grinder, compressor, car battery along with other tools were stolen.
Recent thefts in Lower Sackville, Cole Harbour and Hammonds Plains have resulted in RCMP encouraging contractors to consider the following to prevent being targeted by thieves:
- remove items of value from work sites
- take extra steps to secure building or trailer equipment
- park in a well lit and visible area
- engrave markings on equipment to help identify if stolen
- document all serial and model numbers
- photograph all items
- install alarm systems/security cameras
The investigations are ongoing.
