RCMP investigates stolen vehicle and multiple thefts

Halifax District RCMP is investigating​ a vehicle theft​ and multiple​ thefts from vehicles​ in Lower Sackville.

Sometime between the night of​ June 4​ and the morning of June 5, a white 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe was stolen from a home​ on Tamarack Circ. It was​ unlocked and the keys were inside at the time of the theft. The​ vehicle was​ found by police​ on June 5 on Seawood Ave. at approximately 2:30 p.m. after someone reported the vehicle parked suspiciously on a residence’s lawn.​ The investigation led​ to a witness​ description of two men seen inside the vehicle 7:30 a.m. that morning.​ They​ were described as​ white​ and in their twenties. One had a moustache and was wearing a red vest. The other had a short haircut and was wearing a dark colored shirt and pants.​

The RCMP also received nine reports of​ thefts from vehicles in Lower Sackville​ between the night of​ June 4​ and the morning of June 5.​ These happened on on Aspen Cres., Alder Cres., Balsam Circ., and Tamarack Circ.,​ within​ a short distance of the vehicle theft on Tamarack Circ. The vehicles were unlocked at the time of the thefts and items reported stolen included​ a Blackberry, a Kate Spade wallet, three pairs of Ray-Ban sunglasses, loose change and a cellphone charger.

“It’s awful to​ learn​ that someone has​ stolen from you. We feel for victims of theft​ who have had their privacy violated and have lost meaningful items,” says Cpl. Lisa Croteau​ of Halifax District RCMP. “The best way to protect yourself against theft is to secure your property. Remove keys, wallets, cash, garage door openers and other valuables from vehicles. Be sure to​ close windows, lock doors and report suspicious activity to police.”
