At approximately 1:25 a.m. this morning, Colchester District RCMP, Emergency Health Services and Onslow Belmont Fire Brigade were dispatched to a collision on Highway 104, Lornevale where it was reported that a pedestrian had been struck by a passing vehicle.
The collision occurred when an armoured vehicle struck a pedestrian who was walking alongside the road. The pedestrian, a 51-year-old New Glasgow man suffered serious injuries and was transported to the Colchester East Hants Health Centre. He was later airlifted to the QEII Hospital in Halifax via EHS LifeFlight.
The west bound lane of Highway 104, between Exit 11 and Exit 7, was closed for approximately five hours while RCMP Traffic Services completed the collision reconstruction aspect of the investigation. During this time traffic was re-routed though Folly Mountain on Highway 4. The highway was reopened at 6:30 a.m.
The investigation is continuing.
