RCMP investigating copper wire theft and property damage at​ Waverley substation

Halifax District RCMP​ is investigating a break and enter causing property damage and the​ theft of copper wire from a Nova Scotia Power substation in Waverley.

Sometime between February 6 at 11 a.m. and February 7 at 8 a.m., the suspect(s)​ drove a large vehicle into the locked gate of a fence surrounding​ a substation on Waverley Rd. in Waverley. As a result, the gate was forced open and the fence was damaged.

The suspect(s)​ then stole copper wire from​ several different areas, which would have taken some time to accomplish.​ The suspect(s) also​ broke into a trailer​ within the substation, where they​ stole an electric heater and slings for carrying tools. The combined theft, damage and​ human resource costs​ to re-install​ replacement copper wire​ is estimated to be approximately $5,000.

The investigation is ongoing.

Nova Scotia Power prohibits public access to its substations and other facilities that contain high voltage electrical equipment due to the high risk to personal and public safety. Anyone who unlawfully enters these premises is risking severe injuries to themselves and significant damage to onsite equipment.
