RCMP invites citizen to #tweetfromthemountieseat

Tomorrow, June 19th, @thecyr will tweet as he ‘rides-along’ with Halifax District RCMP. “Inviting a citizen to tweet from the passenger seat of a police car is a chance for us to share a day in the life of an RCMP officer,” says Paula Sibley-Fox, Director of Communications and Media Relations for the RCMP in Nova Scotia.

@thecyr will take people on a virtual ‘ride-along’ inside the police car from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. He will share what an officer sees and does on Twitter via text updates, pictures and video tweeted live from the field.

Tomorrow’s #tweetfromthemountieseat is a first for the RCMP in Canada and is part of the Nova Scotia RCMP’s ongoing effort to enhance communication with the public. People following hashtag #tweetfromthemountieseat, @thecyr or @RCMPNS on Twitter will be able to ask questions and interact directly with the officer.

“As a member of the RCMP I am often asked what a typical day is like, but there is no such thing, because every day brings something new,” says Cst. Heidi Stevenson, Halifax District RCMP.

“Tweet from the Mountie Seat” is a Twitter exclusive. Those not yet on Twitter are invited to visit: www.twitter.com and sign up. It only takes a few seconds and it is free. Once signed up, be sure to follow the Nova Scotia RCMP’s Twitter handle, @RCMPNS.
