RCMP is reminding motorists to think before accelerating

Halifax District RCMP have issued heavy fines to three motorists who obviously haven’t gotten the message that speeding can result in serious consequences.

Shortly after 8 p.m. last evening, RCMP observed two vehicles, a 2003 Acura RSX and a 2016 GMC Sierra, travelling westbound on Highway 7 in Westphal, at a high rate of speed. Both vehicles were parallel to each other and were determined to be racing. As a result, both drivers have been charged with Stunting under the Provincial Motor Vehicle Act. Additionally, their license was suspended for 7 days and vehicles were seized. The fine for stunting in Nova Scotia is $2,422.50.

Around 11 p.m. last evening, RCMP observed a vehicle heading northbound along the Beaver Bank Rd. in Beaver Bank. The vehicle was clocked at 115 km/h in a 50 km/hr zone, 65 km/hr over the posted speed limit. The 17-year-old driver of the Honda Civic, was charged for Stunting under the Provincial Motor Vehicle Act. Additionally, his license was suspended for 7 days and vehicle was seized. The fine for stunting in Nova Scotia is $2,422.50.

Halifax District RCMP want to remind the public that speed is one of the major causes of serious injury and fatal collisions on our roads. Road Safety is a priority for the RCMP, and drivers are reminded to make it their priority as well. If you see someone driving unsafely on our roads, report it by calling RCMP at 911.
