Don’t become a statistic this weekend.

This Thanksgiving, RCMP and all police services in Nova Scotia are taking part in Operation Impact to save lives and reduce injuries on the province’s roadways.

Operation Impact is a Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police National Road Safety Initiative that takes place from October 11th -14th.

As the Provincial Police, the RCMP will have a strong presence on Nova Scotia’s roadways this weekend checking to see if motorists are driving in a safe and sober manner.

As Nova Scotians set out to enjoy the Thanksgiving long weekend to spend time with friends and family, traffic volumes will increase and so will the opportunity for serious injury and fatal collisions. By targeting high risk driving behaviors (failing to buckle up, Impaired Driving by Drugs or Alcohol, Aggressive and Distracted Driving), RCMP hope to minimize the number of serious collisions on our roadways.

‘Road Safety is a priority for the RCMP. It should also be a priority for all Nova Scotians’, says Cst. Mark Skinner of Nova RCMP Traffic Services. ‘All collisions are preventable. Take the time to get where you’re going and pay attention so you arrive at your destination safe and sound.’

RCMP will be releasing statistics next week on enforcement actions over the weekend and is hoping that all road users will take the necessary steps to ensure their driving behaviors are not reflected in these numbers.
