RCMP Make Arrest in Windsor Child Pornography Case

[Information Published via RCMP Release]

A Windsor youth is facing child pornography charges following an investigation by Windsor District RCMP and the RCMP’s Provincial Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit.

On March 23, 2016, information came forward to police that inappropriate images had been shared on a social media site by a 15-year-old female.

As a result, Windsor District RCMP arrested the 15-year-old girl yesterday who is facing charges of Producing, Possessing and Distributing Child Pornography. The youth was released and will appear in Windsor Provincial Court on April 1, 2016.

“These are serious charges and as police, we want to remind parents about the importance of talking to their children about their online activities,” says Cpl. Jennifer Clarke, Nova Scotia RCMP. “We need to ensure they understand the gravity of their actions and the consequences associated to their online behaviour. Once a digital image is created,  it is impossible to know what will happen when it goes out into the world and it may never be deleted.”

The investigation is ongoing.

In Nova Scotia it is mandatory for citizens to report suspected child pornography. This means that anyone who encounters child pornography material or recordings must report it to police. Failing to report suspicious activity and materials could result in penalties similar to failure to report child abuse set out in the Child and Family Services Act. The RCMP encourages citizens to be a voice for children who are victims of sexual exploitation by reporting any suspected offences to your local police or by using Canada’s national tip line for reporting online sexual exploitation of children at www.cybertip.ca.
