An RCMP officer who had stopped a vehicle on Church Street was lucky to escape injuries as he was exiting his cruiser.
At approximately 3:45 p.m. today, an RCMP officer conducting a traffic stop with its emergency lights activated was attempting to exit his police vehicle when a pick-up truck towing a large flat deck trailer collided with the partially opened door of the police vehicle.
Fortunately the officer was not hurt. The trailer sustained minor damage and the police vehicle sustained moderate damage.
Road conditions and weather conditions were good at the time of the incident.
RCMP wish to remind drivers when approaching emergency vehicles with emergency lights activated to slow down and exercise due diligence when passing the police vehicle. The investigation is continuing and RCMP does not expect charges to be laid.
