RCMP on scene of fatal ultra-light plane crash, Middle River, N.S.

Victoria County RCMP are currently on the scene of a fatal ultra-light plane crash in Middle River. At approximately 6:50 p.m. this evening, Victoria County RCMP, Emergency Health Services (EHS) and the Middle River Fire Department received a call that an ultra-light plane had crashed near West Side Middle River Rd.

At approximately 6:50 p.m. this evening, Victoria County RCMP, Emergency Health Services (EHS) and the Middle River Fire Department received a call that an ultra-light plane had crashed near West Side Middle River Rd.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the plane contained two male occupants, aged 54 and 26, and crashed into a barn shortly after take-off. The 54-year-old male was pronounced dead at the scene. The 26-year-old is currently being transported to hospital in Halifax via LifeFlight.

The investigation is in its early stages and few details are known at this time regarding the circumstances that led to the crash. The RCMP is leading the investigation, and the Transportation Safety Board has also been notified.
