RCMP pluck puppies from predicament, East Preston, N.S.

Puppies are pleased to be pampered once again after a cold, painful and unpleasant ordeal.

Last evening at 10:53 p.m., an RCMP officer on patrol on Lake Eagle Drive in East Preston saw what he first thought was a rock on the road but at second glance realized he was looking at three black puppies huddled together trying to keep warm.

The puppies were at first frightened of the figure approaching them in the dark, but after some playfulness and coaxing by the officer the puppies allowed him to place them in his warm police car.

‘The puppies were shivering and dirty as they appeared to be out in the elements for a while,’ said Corporal Scott MacRae. The officer conducted a subsequent search of the area, looking for other puppies but he did not find any family members.

The dog’s first stop was the RCMP Detachment in Cole Harbour where they were welcomed by other officers who were more than happy to give them some water and some love. From there a Halifax Regional Municipality dispatcher advised of a dog shelter that would take the puppies in the morning so in the meantime they were going to spend the night with the night at the Integrated Emergency Service Center. The dispatchers had purchased food, treats, toys and they were given a nice warm bath.

The RCMP officer knew the puppies were in very good care and getting the pampering they deserved. All three would be taken to the shelter in the morning. It is not clear how the dogs ended up on the road as they were not located near any residence.
