RCMP refer matter to Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT), Dartmouth, N.S.

The Nova Scotia RCMP has contacted the Nova Scotia Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) regarding an alleged assault and sexual assault by an RCMP officer.

Both incidents are alleged to have occurred during offsite RCMP meetings in Queen’s County.

The first incident involved a male RCMP officer assaulting a female RCMP officer on March 24th. The second incident involves the same male RCMP officer inappropriately touching a female RCMP employee in a sexual manner on March 25th.

On March 30th, the sexual assault complainant came forward. The following day, further information revealed a second assault. The RCMP then referred both incidents to SiRT who have taken over the investigation.

An internal RCMP Code of Conduct investigation is also underway. The male RCMP officer has been suspended with pay pending the conclusion of the investigations.

Given the matter is now being investigated, the RCMP is unable to discuss further details about the SiRT investigation.
