RCMP respond to two motor vehicle collisions on Highway 101, Windsor, N.S.

Windsor District RCMP are on the scene of two motor vehicle collisions that occurred this afternoon on Highway 101. At approximately 1 p.m., Windsor District RCMP responded to a collision involving a transport truck hauling an excavator which struck the Exit 7 (Falmouth) overpass on Highway 101.

At approximately 1 p.m., Windsor District RCMP responded to a collision involving a transport truck hauling an excavator which struck the Exit 7 (Falmouth) overpass on Highway 101.

Debris from the damaged overpass then struck a vehicle travelling behind the transport truck. There were no injuries sustained however there appears to be significant damage to the overpass.

At approximately 1:45 p.m., Windsor District RCMP responded to a second collision involving a dump truck colliding with an SUV between Exit 6 (Windsor) and Exit 7 (Falmouth) on Highway 101.

Preliminary investigation indicates that an SUV was rear ended by a dump truck. As a result, one female occupant of the SUV was pronounced deceased on scene. The two other occupants of the SUV have been transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the dump truck was not injured.

Currently, eastbound traffic is being diverted at Exit 8 (Hantsport) onto Highway 1 and westbound traffic is being diverted at Exit 5 (Windsor) onto Highway 1.

RCMP expect the road to be closed for several hours. Motorists are asked to consider alternate routes.
