During a check point on Main St., Bible Hill shortly before 3 a.m. yesterday, Bible Hill RCMP members directed a man driving a truck without a licence to pull into an adjacent parking lot. The 31-year-old male driver fled the check point.

A short time later police officers located the truck abandoned at a nearby parking lot. Truro Police K-9 were called to assist and the driver was located hiding on the bank of Salmon River. As police approached the man, he jumped into the river and began swimming to the other side.

Local fire departments, East Hants Ground Search and Rescue and Nova Scotia Department of Lands and Forestry were contacted to assist.

Police have since confirmed the man is safely out of the water and are continuing a search to bring him into police custody.

The investigation is ongoing.
