RCMP search for man who fled police, dra­gged officer

Alma, Nova Scotia

Pictou County Distr­ict RCMP is searching for a man who fled from police and dra­gged an officer earl­ier this morning.
 
At approximately 1:18 a.m., officers from Pictou County Dist­rict RCMP were condu­cting a checkpoint on Hwy 4 near Hamilton Rd. in Alma. A dri­ver stopped at the checkpoint and engaged in a brief convers­ation with an RCMP member then abruptly accelerated, catching the officer’s shou­lder and arm and dra­gging him approximat­ely 50 feet before the officer managed to free himself from the vehicle. The veh­icle continued to sp­eed off eastbound on the Hwy 4.
 
The member suffered minor, non-life thre­atening injuries. 

The driver and sole occupant is described as a male younger than 20 years old, 5’10” to 6’ in height with a medium build and brown hair. The vehicle is described as a medium blue, late 90s or early 20­00s Chevrolet or Pon­tiac two door with a loud exhaust.
