Victoria County RCMP is searching for two overdue snowmobilers in the Cape Breton Highlands.

At 5:40 a.m. this morning, Victoria County RCMP received a report of two overdue snowmobilers who headed out yesterday morning around 10:30 a.m.

A 54-year-old man from Iona and a 35-year-old man from Halifax were planning to snowmobile from Middle River to Cheticamp yesterday. Both men are experienced snowmobilers who are familiar with the area and were prepared for the travel.

The men were supposed to contact family once they arrived in Cheticamp but they failed to do so. Two Department of Natural Resources employees, a volunteer fireman from Baddeck, and a Halifax firefighter originally from Baddeck headed out on snowmobiles this morning to search the trail from Hunters Mountain to Cheticamp. An RCMP air services helicopter is in the area to search also.

Anyone with information about the missing men is asked to contact Victoria County RCMP at (902) 295-2350. The investigation is continuing.
