RCMP release:
Lunenburg District RCMP safely seized multiple firearms and removed explosive from a residence in Chester Basin during the execution of search warrants.
On January 21, RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment (RCMP HRD) received a report of a person who made threats related to possession and use of firearms. The information received indicated firearms were stored at a residence in Chester Basin. Lunenburg District RCMP assumed lead of the investigation.
On January 23, officers from the Lunenburg District General Investigation Section, Southwest Nova RCMP Street Crime Enforcement Unit (SWN SCEU), Nova Scotia RCMP Explosives Disposal Unit (EDU) and general duty officers attended the home in Chester Basin to execute a search warrant. During the search, officers seized nine firearms including two restricted firearms, ammunition and magazines, improvised incendiary devices (IIDs), and unassembled parts for the construction of IIDs.
A Chester Basin man was safely arrested at the Lunenburg District RCMP detachment in Chester. He was released by police pending an upcoming court appearance to face firearms-related charges.
The investigation is ongoing with assistance of the National Weapons Enforcement Support Team and Criminal Intelligence Service Nova Scotia. The collaboration between multiple RCMP teams and the involvement of officers with a variety of expertise and skills were an important part of the safe execution of these search warrants and seizure of dangerous items.
