RCMP show visible presence in school zones, Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM), N.S.

Halifax RCMP continue to target school zones as part of its road safety strategy.

Over the first two weeks of the school year, Halifax RCMP have charged ten motorists for violations of the Motor Vehicle Act and issued warnings to eleven drivers.

Officers have been in the school zones regularly enforcing laws and increasing visible presence to help promote safety. Most of the charges were for speeding and using a cell phone. As well, school liaison officers have conducted road safety talks and continue to make foot patrols in and around the school grounds.

RCMP officers throughout Nova Scotia continue to enforce and educate the public that the four main causal factors of fatal and serious injury motor vehicle collisions are impaired driving, unbelted occupants, speeding and aggressive driving, driver inattention and distraction.
