RCMP take 9 people into custody during protest

Nova Scotia RCMP attended a site on Langford Rd. in New France, Digby County to enforce a court-ordered injunction against demonstrators impeding a logging project.

The Order was issued by the Nova Scotia Supreme Court on December 10 and included obligations for the RCMP to enforce the terms of the injunction.

Digby RCMP members met daily with the demonstrators to encourage compliance with the terms of the injunction.

Through those discussions it was determined that the terms of the injunction were not going to be met voluntarily.

Police took 9 people (4 men and 5 women ages 30’s to 70’s) into custody peacefully and without incident for Civil Contempt of an Injunction Order.

They have since been released from custody and will appear in court at a later date.
