RCMP take man in custody after standoff in Lawrencetown, Nova Scotia

 

Release:
Shortly after 9:00 PM, shots were fired and police had to close a section of Highway 207 for public safety.
 
September 15, 2011, Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) . . . Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) are on scene of a barricaded person in Lawrencetown, Nova Scotia.
 
At 5:30 PM, RCMP responded to a domestic related incident at a residence on Maple Drive, Lawrencetown. When police attempted to enter the house, a sixty-year-old male threatened to shoot the officers.  Police believe the subject may be armed. Responding officers have secured an area around the home and advise that Maple Drive is closed to traffic.
 
Emergency Response Team secured the scene and a negotiator established communications with the barricaded subject. At 10:40 PM,  the matter was resolved peacefully and a 66-year-old man was taken into police custody. Highway 207 was re-opened to the public shortly after. 
 
The RCMP/HRP General Investigative Section is continuing with the investigation.  Police will be on scene through the night and into tomorrow.
