RCMP urge drivers to use caution on NS Highways

Nova Scotia RCMP are asking motorists to allow extra time and to take extra precaution on our roadways this long weekend.

The regular increase in traffic on long weekends will be even greater this Natal Day weekend as many Nova Scotians head to the U2 concert in New Brunswick. The Nova Scotia RCMP remind motorists to allow extra driving time especially along Highway 104 from Truro to the New Brunswick border.

“We are hoping for a collision free weekend” says Sgt. Brian Herrick of RCMP Nova Scotia Traffic Services. “We anticipate heavy traffic this weekend and we want to remind the motoring public to do their part to keep Nova Scotia’s road ways safe.”

To prevent collisions, the RCMP are reminding road users of the following:

– Do not drive if you have been drinking.

– If you are driving back to Nova Scotia after the concert, ensure you are well rested and are alert at all times while driving.

– Due to the heavy traffic, allow extra time to get to your destination.

– Expect delays especially at the Cobequid pass.

– Maintain a safe distance between your vehicle and those in front of you, remember you never know what another driver is going to do.

– Ensure cell phones are charged and ready for use in the event of an emergency

– Turn your headlights on so other motorists can see you.
