The RCMP is warning the public of two telemarketing scams happening in Nova Scotia.

Over the past few days, citizens have reported that they received a phone call from a male who claims to be an RCMP Constable.

The caller tells people he is soliciting money to fund an RCMP anti-bullying book. The man requests donations of $100 to $300.

When the citizen says they will not provide credit card information over the phone or requests that additional information be sent through the mail, the man says he is transferring the person to another agent and the line is disconnected.

Last evening, Tantallon RCMP also received complaints from the public who were contacted through email by someone alleging an assassin will be assigned to kill them if they do not pay extortion money.

If you receive calls like this, hang up and if you receive emails of this nature, please delete the e-mail and do not respond.

RCMP would like to remind the public that the RCMP does not take part in any type of phone solicitation for funds.

If you are a victim of fraud, contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 or http://www.antifraudcentre.ca . You may also contact your local detachment of the RCMP.
