RCMP Warn Seniors about Phone Scam, Chester area, N.S.

The RCMP have issued a warning about a phone scam targeting seniors which recently surfaced in the Chester area.

A female received a call from a male saying he was with her bank and requesting her personal banking information.

She was told money was put into her account and that they needed to take it back out. The caller knew personal information about her, and he was very convincing, so she trusted the caller’s legitimacy. By the time the bank was notified about what took place, money had been already been taken from her account.

Lunenburg District RCMP are asking citizens to be diligent when verifying with whom they are speaking on the phone and to be careful not to share any personal information. It is advisable that they call their bank with the 1-800 number on the back of their card or visit their branch to confirm this information.
