RCMP warns of suspicious phone calls

**** RCMP Media Release

Nova Scotia RCMP is warning the public about reports of suspicious phone calls where the caller asked for credit card or personal information.

In each instance, the targeted person’s caller ID showed the caller’s phone number as “911” followed by a regular seven digit telephone number. If those targeted tried to call the number back, they were connected to emergency services because the number started with 911.

The RCMP is asking residents to not call back unknown numbers starting with “911” as this will result in accidentally calling emergency services. Police are also reminding residents not to give personal or financial information to callers they don’t know.

The investigations are ongoing.
