Funding for a project in Eskasoni will support community and physical activity for Nova Scotians.
“Community recreation facilities make it easier for individuals and families to be physically active,” said MLA Pamela Ekying, on behalf of Tony Ince, Minister of Communities, Culture and Heritage. “They are places where people can come together and investing in them is an investment in our seniors, families and youth, and in our communities as a whole.”
The Dan K. Stevens Memorial Arena in Eskasoni will receive $100,000 to help with a new electrical panel and ice plant equipment, and to provide necessary upgrades to the rink beams.
“Eskasoni Chief and Council are very grateful for the Dan K. Stevens Memorial Arena upgrades,” said Chief Leroy Denny. “They will not only keep the arena operating for many years to come, but, more importantly, will keep our community active and healthy.
“Eskasoni has a very young population and one of our key mandates as chief and council is to support programs that invest in the potential of our youth. Today’s rink renovations will have a lasting impact in delivering our youth programs.”
The province is helping to build the infrastructure for strong and vibrant communities. By supporting these facilities, government makes it easier for individuals and families to enjoy what their communities have to offer and provide opportunities for Nova Scotians to participate in healthy activities.
