Red Hot 2013

L-A: What with the arrival of Baby V only days before and my taking off to a new city/vacation plans, we needed to tap into our talent pool. Jill agreed to attend this kick ass party for a kick ass cause.

Hello fashionable friends!

Ladies, we need to talk.

Last Thursday, I attended an event called Red Hot In The City – apparently glamorous parties are now part of my role as FPQT associate, and I couldn’t be happier. The fundraiser is on behalf of the Heart and Stroke Foundation, so not only did I get to feel like a socialite for an evening, it was for a really good cause.

Seriously y’all, I’ve got to dish about this party. It is possible the most fashionable evening in Halifax. Everyone wears red in honor of the event, and let me tell you – people looked goooood.

I had some trouble finding weather appropriate red clothing, so I ended up adding a few pops of color to my favorite lace dress. Nails, lips, belt. But the lovely Vanessa Jubis came with me and represented in a hot red dress.

This is me, Jill. Vanessa escaped getting her picture taken.

Vanessa and I declared this party “the absolute best” more than once during the night. First of all? There was wine. Nova 7! Tidal Bay! Prosecco! Delicious. Second of all, the food. Everywhere you looked, there was a food station set up or a server passing around some new treat. Vanessa and I both really dug the fresh scallops and the oxymoronic GIANT shrimp.

A Veronica MacIsaac dress I drooled over a little at the silent auction; food and music.

And the desserts, guys. Later in the evening the room was filled with macarons, squares, blueberry crumble, mini cupcakes, tiny donuts, little chocolate mousses in shot glasses… it was divine. Major kudos to the host, The Prince George Hotel – those folks know how to cater a party.

Tiny desserts, sponsored cocktails and delicious, giant shrimp.

Of course, this is a fashion blog, so I have to talk about the fashion as well. In addition to a silent auction and cool mini-boutique, there was a fun fashion show from Foreign Affair. I snapped a few photos of some of my favorite items from the night.

Some of the great dresses from the Foreign Affair fashion show.

One of my favorite parts of the show was a Project Runway style section. Some local emerging fashion designers had been given $50 for fabric and a month to come up with a unique creation. It was really fun to see what everyone put together.

A few favorites.

Food, fashion, FUN. The music was great, too. I enjoyed the two live bands a lot, and at the end of the night a DJ spun some favorite dance music and you could tell the crowd was loving it.

My  photos don’t really do this event justice. Themed red lighting made the atmosphere really great, but didn’t help out my iPhone photography. See the event in all its awesomeness by checking out these photos courtesy of Applehead Studios.

This was one of the most fabulous events I’ve ever been to in Halifax, and you can attend next year! Start raising your $300 now. The Heart and Stroke Foundation is one of the most worthy causes out there, especially if you’re a woman. Did you know heart disease and stroke is the leading cause of death in women? We heard stories of young moms in their thirties who’d been affected that almost made me ugly-cry in public. [ed. note: If Jill almost ugly-cried in public, that’s something. She never cries.]
