Liberal MLA for Bedford-Birch Cove Kelly Regan introduced a resolution in the House of Assembly today that urged the NDP government to make a decision on funding the four rink complex in Bedford.

“This rink complex is important to not only the people of Bedford, but for the entire Halifax Regional Municipality and the surrounding communities as well,” says Regan.

“This project will spur economic development in the region while promoting healthy living and attracting tourism opportunities.”

The future of the four rink complex was in jeopardy after the federal Conservative government refused to fund its share of the project.

HRM has committed to seeing the project through and has pledged to cover the federal portion of funding.

Regan’s resolution requested that the provincial NDP government announce their intentions for the project immediately and work to persuade the Harper government to reconsider their decision.

The resolution passed unanimously in the legislature-a symbolic endorsement of the rink complex by the provincial government.

“By passing the resolution, this government confirmed its support of the Bedford quadplex,” stated Regan. “Our community is looking forward to the announcement.”
