Saturday, March 21, 2015 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality would like to remind residents that there is no garbage, recyclables or organics collection anywhere in the Halifax region today and would ask residents to remove any waste from curbside right away.
Originally the missed collection from Wednesday, March 19, was rescheduled for today; however, due to the ongoing narrow streets and snow removal work in many areas, the municipality decided on Thursday to cancel all solid waste pickup for the rest of the week and the weekend.
Clearing crews are now reporting that many homes have cans and garbage bags at the curb, which is interfering with snow removal.
Residents are asked to remove their waste from the curb as soon as possible to avoid it being hit or torn open by snow-clearing equipment. Those affected will need to hold onto their waste until their next regularly scheduled collection day.
For residents whose pickup was cancelled this past week, the municipality will allow double the regular garbage bag limit on Wednesday, April 1, Thursday, April 2 and Saturday, April 4. Please note that April 3 is Good Friday, and therefore collection for the holiday will take place on Saturday, April 4.
Thank you for your continued cooperation throughout the cleanup from last week’s storms and for more information on clearing and any impact to municipal services, residents can visit www.halifax.ca/snow.
