Reminder: No parking – left side of Hollis Street bike lane

Friday, Oct. 9, 2015 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality is reminding residents that the Nova Scotia Motor Vehicle Act states it is an offence to park a vehicle in a bicycle lane.

To re-inforce this message, more than two dozen ‘No Parking’ signs will be added to the recently installed bicycle lane on the left side of Hollis Street from Cogswell Street to Morris Street.

The signs are scheduled to be erected beginning on Tuesday (Oct. 13).

The Hollis Street bicycle lane was the final element of downtown street network changes implemented in 2011, which resulted in a re-organization of one and two-way streets and a bicycle lane on Lower Water Street. The 2011 project added approximately 110 new on-street parking spaces which offset the parking removed when the Hollis Street bicycle lane was installed.

Regional Council approved the Active Transportation Plan in 2006, which aims to provide a network of connected routes to make walking and bicycling easier and more accessible to residents.
