Repairs Continuing on Victoria Road Pedestrian Bridge

Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2015 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents that work is continuing on the pedestrian bridge that spans Victoria Road in Dartmouth; however, crews will accommodate access for students when school begins later this week.

The bridge will remain closed to all pedestrians tomorrow, Sept. 2. Classes resume at the nearby elementary and junior high schools on Thursday, Sept. 3. For the first day of school only, the bridge will be open from 7:15 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.

Starting on Friday, Sept. 4, and continuing until Thursday, Sept. 17, the bridge will be open weekdays from 7:15 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., and 2:15 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. to accommodate students during their morning, lunch time and afternoon commutes. During all other hours, the bridge will be closed. The bridge will remain closed overnight and on weekends, as well as Labour Day, Monday, Sept. 7.

These accommodations were discussed with the administration at the neighbouring schools and communicated with parents in the area. Pedestrians looking to cross Victoria while the bridge is closed should use the marked crosswalks at Highfield Park Drive or Primrose Street. Motorists are advised to slow their speed and watch for increased pedestrian traffic in the area.

The municipality regrets any inconvenience this ongoing work and closures may cause; however, they are necessary for the public’s safety.
