Residents Advised to Travel Carefully on Morning Commute

Tuesday, April 1, 2014 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents to drive with care today and allow extra time for the morning commute due to the slippery road conditions.

Mixed precipitation as forecasted overnight has blanketed the HRM with layers of snow, ice pellets and rain showers.

Crews focused on Priority 1 routes overnight as they required multiple applications of salt and sand to keep conditions passable. Hill turns, intersections and main routes have been cleared and treated multiple times, although slippery sections can be expected as mixed precipitation persists.

Crews will continue these efforts throughout the day, as required. However, commuters are asked to remember that road conditions are subject to rapid shifts as the air temperature and precipitation type is varied across the region.
