Residents Invited to Celebrate National Public Works Week

Wednesday, May 21, 2014 (Halifax, NS) – In honour of National Public Works Week (May 18-24), the Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting residents to an exhibition celebrating the hundreds of municipal Transportation and Public Works professionals working in the Halifax region.

Whether it’s keeping our streets clear through the winter months, maintaining the beauty of our parks and open spaces or designing safer streetscapes and neighbourhoods, Transportation and Public Works employees play a significant role in improving the quality of life in our communities.

This fun family event will help to raise awareness of what these workers do every day. This year’s event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 22, at the Halifax Forum. Transportation and Public Works employees will be on hand to demonstrate the equipment they use and explain how municipal services are delivered to the public.

The exhibition will also feature Halifax Regional Police, who will have a car and crosswalk lights to talk about crosswalk safety, Halifax Regional Fire will have a fire truck on site, Halifax Water will have a water truck and information about its services, and workers with Solid Waste Resources will be on hand with MOBY the educational robot and games about sorting your waste.

School groups and children accompanied by parents are welcome to join in the learning and fun.
