Monday, Mar. 23, 2015 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting residents to participate in a public consultation being held this week to help plan future growth and development of Dutch Village Road and area in Halifax.

The Halifax Municipal Planning Strategy currently designates the Dutch Village Road area as a mixed-use area with medium-density residential and commercial uses. Over the past five years, there has been increased interest in developing higher density, mixed-use buildings within this community. This type of development is currently not permitted under the local land use planning policies therefore each proposal requires individual policy amendments.

Regional Council initiated a process in 2013 to establish comprehensive planning policies that will enable additional commercial and residential developments on the lands located within Dutch Village Road and neighbouring areas. This public consultation is part of that ongoing process.
