ReTales May 25th: A Year of Weekly Updates!

HRversarry

So they said it couldn’t be done, they being the voices in my head, however a year later and this is my 52nd consecutive weekly updates about the on goings of retail and restaurant news in Halifax on the blog and syndicated by haligonia every Sunday morning.

Thanks to everyone for reading, contributing, encouraging and criticizing me along the way. This weekly digest is comprised of updates from my twitter feed, where I then take the highlights and put them on my Facebook page, which I then compile weekly to bring you this update. I look forward to providing you with more updates over the next year and I’m sure I’ll come up with some more ideas on how to keep you informed and entertained.

Now on to this weeks digest:

Scanway will be opening a cafe on Grafton St where until recently was a bead store, they will be serving up soup sandwiches, pastries and maybe even doughnuts

Tarboosh Lebanese on Fenwick St. is gone being replaced by something called Tipsy Chopstick, which seems to be a fusion Asian bar.

BOOMBurger in the Larry Uteck area is aiming for a mid June opening, while across the roundabout McDonald’s opened up this week.

Is Tarek awesome? YES!
Is using Tareks name worth it NO!   The buffet in Brewery Market and pizza joint in Bedford both drop Tarek name but continue under same management.

The TimmyME app now allows you to pay at Tim Hortons with your phone.

Nurtured natural and educational kids store on Robie will be moving to Agricola street in one of the spaces created by the recently renovated NSLC. CycleSmith will also be relocating there from Quinpool. While in the Nurtured space a new business Patch will be opening. Patch will have sewing machines on hand to rent and sell fabrics and other notions. They will also have classes, so maybe someday a guy like me will learn how to make a napkin.

Sears continues it’s end, licensing for Kenmore and Craftsman names are available for the Canadian Market. While word comes out that Target Canada has amassed $1.5 Billion in losses since opening it’s stores. A computer glitch has been blamed for its notoriously empty shelves.

US based chain Party City opened in Bayers Lake on Friday, it’s located in the same plaza as Home Outfitter  and Paderno.

Monday marked the opening of Indochine‘s second Halifax location on the corner of Barrington and Prince.

Observed this bit of terrible marketing at Sobeys where they used, Mylar balloons to encourage you not to use plastic bags. Mylar takes forever to breakdown, not the best way to help the environment.

So I will be on vacation this week, I expect that next weeks update will have a Montreal flare to it
