Revenge – Divided They Fall

Revenge – Divided They Fall Goodness Grayson! What a dramatic, jaw-dropping episode of Revenge that was.

When this show began, it was about Emily seeking revenge on the people who’d ruined her father’s life. Since she arrived in the Hamptons, her journey has altered. Now that she knows her mother is alive, Emily has tunnel vision. She’ll find her mother, and she doesn’t care who gets hurt in the process.

Emily has been using people as pawns more and more this season, and her actions are becoming increasingly destructive. Jack and Nolan have been hurt, and now Amanda.

Emily used Amanda to get Victoria to discuss what had become of Emily’s mom. Victoria eventually revealed that Emily’s mother had tried to kill her own young daughter, and that she was the source of all of David’s pain. But can anyone trust Victoria? Amanda didn’t believe her, and things got heated. When Victoria tried to snatch a cheque she’d written away from Amanda, Amanda fell from the balcony and ended up in a coma. We don’t know whether she or the baby will be OK.

Hearing that news over the car radio brought Emily’s mom to the hospital, after having just left Aiden tied up at the motel. Mama Clarke is armed and dangerous, but we still don’t really know where she falls on the good/evil scale. She’s against the Graysons and The Initiative, as was the white-haired man. But we still know very little.

So far I’ve felt pretty ‘whatever’ about Nolan and his little love interest (I can’t be the only one who prefers Nolan when he plays for the other team, right?) but the look on her face when she discovered who Nolan got his seed money from intrigued me. Does she have a connection to David Clarke or the terrorist act he was blamed for? Or is she just surprised to learn she works for a company built with the money of a monster? This will pay off, just like Ashley’s character did. On Revenge it always does.

Speaking of Ashley, the games between her, Conrad and Daniel have been much juicier than expected. Daniel has stepped up to the plate as a manipulator worthy of the Grayson name and I love watching him dance around his father’s games. The more jaded Daniel becomes, the more interesting his character gets.

I’m *not* interested, so far anyway, in Declan and his life of crime. The whole thing was a set up? Just so a guy can make an offer on Jack’s bar? What, is it built on top of oil or something? Why does anyone want to buy a bar that barely breaks even the best of weeks? I guess we’ll find out soon – I hope it’s good.

I haven’t always been the biggest Amanda fan, but this season and this episode helped show the sympathetic side to her character. She was beginning to realize that Emily will never be satisfied, and Amanda just wanted a normal life. She wanted out, but waited too long. You have to feel sorry for the girl, and wonder if Emily will ever stop.

If anyone was feeling ho-hum about season two of Revenge so far, I would hope this episode convinced them that the show is still can’t-be-missed TV. I can’t wait to see where it all goes!
