Road Closure – North Park Street

Tuesday, July 15, 2014 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents that North Park Street, from Cunard to Cogswell, will be closed for a period of five weeks starting at 9 a.m.

on Wednesday, July 16, for construction of the first of two roundabouts in the area.

Crews will be working from 7 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturdays, for the duration of this project. The street will not reopen overnight.

Motorists are urged to plan ahead now to find alternative routes while this work is going on. The municipality apologizes for any inconvenience this closure and the ongoing construction may cause.

There will be further closures on sections of North Park Street and the surrounding streets once this first phase of construction is complete. Details of those closures will be shared with the public as the project progresses.

Throughout the closures, crews on site will be able to accommodate access to North Park Street from Cogswell Street for local residents, businesses and the Halifax Armoury.

For pedestrians, the sidewalk on the east side of North Park Street will be closed between Cunard and Cornwallis streets.

Temporary traffic signals will be in place at the intersection of Cunard and Agricola and the crosswalks will be maintained throughout the closure. Pedestrians and cyclists are encouraged to use the active transportation path on the Halifax Common that runs along the length of North Park Street.

This is a two-year project, beginning with construction of the roundabout at Cunard Street, which will be operational by Oct. 31, 2014. The second roundabout at the intersection of North Park, Cogswell, Rainnie, Trollope and Ahern streets will be built in 2015.
