Thursday, July 3, 2014 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents that the Powder Mill Lake Bridge on Rocky Lake Drive will be closed for six weeks starting Thursday, July 10, in order to replace the aging infrastructure.

Road construction related to this project began on Rocky Lake Drive last month and will continue until Aug. 31. In order to install the new bridge, the old bridge will need to be closed to vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists for the duration of the work, and a detour will be in place.

The final preparatory work for the bridge replacement will take place between Monday, July 7, and Wednesday, July 9. There will be lane drops and stop-and-go traffic on those days starting at 7 a.m. until about 9 p.m. Motorists should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes, if possible.

Crews will soon be installing electronic traffic signage on Rocky Lake Drive at Cobequid Road and Duke Street, posting updates on the bridge replacement.

The municipality recognizes that Rocky Lake Drive is a busy stretch and a popular route for cyclists, and apologizes for any inconvenience this work may cause. These upgrades are necessary to ensure a safe and smooth trip for all residents.
