Road Closures for Snow Removal

Sunday, March 22, 2015 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents that there will be a series of street closures in Halifax today while crews continue with snow removal.

The following streets will be closed starting at 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. to allow heavy equipment to blow and load the snow into trucks to haul it away:

  • Oxford Street between Quinpool Road and South Street
  • North Street between Windsor Street and Barrington Street
  • Almon Street between Connaught Avenue and Gottingen Street
  • Young Street between Robie Street and Agricola Street
  • Connaught Avenue between Bayers Road and Windsor Street

Halifax Regional Police will be on hand to provide traffic control for the duration of the closures.

All Halifax Transit buses that normally travel on these streets will be operating on detoured routes until the streets reopen tonight. Information on service disruptions and detoured routes is available on transit’s website at and via @hfxtransit on Twitter.

Motorists are advised to find alternative routes if travelling in those areas today and they should keep an eye out for plows, excavators, salt trucks and other heavy equipment as the cleanup continues around the region.

Residents are also reminded that the 24-hour restriction on all on-street parking remains in effect until further notice. The municipality is assessing road conditions regularly and will advise residents when on-street parking can resume.

Halifax Regional Police and RCMP are continuing to work with clearing crews and doing proactive patrols to help prevent people from parking on the street. Officers will ticket and tow any vehicles that are on the streets hampering snow removal.

The municipality understands that these parking restrictions and road closures may cause some inconvenience; however, this work is required to remove snow and widen the streets to ensure emergency and transit vehicles can navigate the roads safely. We thank you for your continued cooperation and patience.
