Thursday, June 16, 2016 (Halifax, NS) – The Emera Oval and two busy streets near the Halifax Common will be closed over the next few days for the annual Hockey Night in Canada Play On! Halifax street hockey tournament.
· Cogswell Street (in both directions) between Robie and North Park streets will be closed beginning this evening (Thursday) at 6 p.m., re-opening again Sunday night at 10 p.m.
· Trollope Street between the Cogswell Street roundabout and Bell Road will be closed beginning Friday evening at 6:30 p.m., re-opening again Sunday night at 10 p.m.
Staffed barricades will be in place around the clock at entrances to both closed streets.
During the closure, traffic cones will be placed along the left turning lane on Quinpool Road to prevent motorists from attempting to travel through to Cogswell Street at Robie. And the Cogswell Street roundabout will be reduced to one lane throughout the closure to ensure motorists don’t attempt to travel down Cogswell Street or Trollope Street.
While the Emera Oval will be closed for the duration of the street hockey tournament, staff will be on hand for those wanting to borrow scooters or skateboards to use in the nearby skateboard park. Washroom facilities will also be open throughout the weekend.
Residents are advised there will be no parking on the closed streets or on the North and Central Common during the event. Regular parking restrictions will resume when the streets re-open Sunday night.
Sports fields in the North Common area are open for regularly scheduled league play throughout the weekend. In fact, a softball tournament is planned for this weekend so parking will be at a premium.
