Road Closures – Switch: Open Streets Event

Thursday, June 4, 2015 (Halifax, NS) – A number of streets in downtown Dartmouth will be switching it up this weekend by closing to vehicle traffic and welcoming pedestrians and other users to enjoy the street in new ways.

Switch: Open Streets is a movement to do just what it says — open streets to a greater variety of transportation modes. The event is meant to encourage people to enjoy the Halifax region in a new way by walking, biking and moving around safely and comfortably on a two-kilometre route.

Starting at noon on Sunday, June 7, Portland Street will be closed to vehicles from Alderney Drive to Prince Albert Road, as well as Prince Albert Road from Portland to Sinclair Street. All affected streets will reopen to traffic at 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Motorists are advised that due to the closures, the traffic signals at Prince Albert and Hawthorne Street will be turned off and the intersection will be controlled by Halifax Regional Police.

People travelling through the area by car should use alternative routes, or better yet, park, get out and enjoy the celebration! With Bike Week 2015 kicking off this Friday, consider taking to two wheels and participating in one of the many cycling events happening around the region.
