Road safety focus in Lower Sackville, Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM), N.S.

RCMP in Halifax conducted targeted enforcement checkpoints on April 22nd in relation to complaints of motorists failing to abide by legislation under the Nova Scotia Motor Vehicle Act.

RCMP in Halifax conducted targeted enforcement checkpoints on April 22nd in relation to complaints of motorists failing to abide by legislation under the Nova Scotia Motor Vehicle Act.

Officers, between 2:00 and 6 p.m., focused on community safety and issued 24 tickets in the area of First Lake Drive in Lower Sackville. Eighteen drivers failed to stop at a stop sign. Three drivers were operating a motor vehicle and using a cell phone. Two others were fined for not wearing their seatbelts. One driver was found to be driving without a license and several others were warned for speeding.

Road safety is one of Halifax RCMP’s operational priorities for this 2014/2015 with a focus on:

· education

· strategic enforcement based on the analysis of crime trends

· awareness with the goal of reducing serious injury/fatal collisions and distracted/dangerous drivers
