Robyn Atwell v. Halifax Regional Police Board of Inquiry Dismissed

An independent human rights board of inquiry into Robyn Atwell v. Halifax Regional Municipality has dismissed a complaint of discrimination.

Sgt. Atwell alleged that she was discriminated against on the basis of her race and/or colour, as well as her gender, during the course of her career with Halifax Regional Police.

The board of inquiry was scheduled to begin this week.

As Sgt. Atwell elected not to attend the scheduled board of inquiry hearing Tuesday, Aug. 23, counsel for the Halifax Regional Municipality moved that the complaint be dismissed.

Board chair Lynn Connors issued an oral decision dismissing Sgt. Atwell’s complaint. A formal decision with additional detail will be issued by Mrs. Connors within six months.
