Firearms, crossbow, drugs seized at Bedford Highway police checkpoint

HRP release:

On January 11 at approximately 2:15 a.m., officers were conducting a traffic checkpoint on the Bedford Highway, near Bayview Drive. At approximately 2:30 a.m., officers stopped a vehicle and spoke with the driver who was subsequently arrested for impaired driving. At the time of arrest, officers located and seized two firearms, a crossbow and a quantity of money and drugs. The passenger was also arrested.

Tyreece Whynder-Ewing, 31, was scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court today to face charges of:

  • Transport firearm or restricted weapon contrary to regulations
  • Possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace (x2)
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm-no license/certificate
  • Possession of a prohibited/restricted weapon/ammo-no license
  • Possession of a firearm in a vehicle
  • Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition obtained by crime
  • Tampering with serial number on firearm
  • Possession of a firearm contrary to order/fail to surrender (x2)
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of property obtained by crime less than $5000.00
  • Laundering proceeds of Canadian crime for a criminal organization
  • Operation of a conveyance while impaired to any degree by alcohol or drugs or a combination of both

Shaquille Johnson, 32, was scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court today to face charges of:

  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm-no license/certificate
  • Possession of a prohibited/restricted weapon/ammo-no license
