Rumor mill : IKEA returning to Dartmouth?

Whew! Crazy Monday on the Dside. I've been inundated with texts, tweets all about the white whale of big box stores. The question on everyone's lips is, "Is IKEA coming to Dartmouth Crossing?"

I know, I know. This is a tale as old as time. So many stories and legends about the demise of the IKEA store. A little searching and I was astounded to discover the very first IKEA store in North America was opened in Dartmouth in 1975 but closed due to, "high operational costs and market size".

Now I am not immune to rumors and speculation, hell I've spun a few yarns in my time. (How old am i ? ) But this one still grabs me every time it comes up. The fact that today there is surge of talk about this has me searching, souring the internet looking for clues.

And you know why? Because I want a frikken IKEA. I've done the cross country trek to Montreal and Hamilton. I've packed the car overflowing with Swedish goodies several times. I have a personal pet peeve, no matter where I go in the city it seems every furniture store stocks the same big bean bag puffy furniture. Sure there are cheap knockoff places like JYSK, which leaves me unsatisfied.

A year ago almost to the day a local supplier to IKEA, furniture manufacturer Scanwood Canada Ltd. went bankrupt. It seems that theres something about IKEA and the Maritimes that doesn't mix.
