The SS Atlantic Heritage Park Society will be hosting a Book Signing Sunday, August 16, at 2:00 pm. at the SS Atlantic Heritage Park, 180 Sandy Cove Rd., Terence Bay. Bob Chaulk and Greg Cochkanoff’s widow Anne Cochkanoff will be on hand for the signing.
Greg Cochkanoff had an avid interest in the shipwrecks of Nova Scotia, especially the SS Atlantic. He spent more than twenty-five years researching, diving and scouring three countries and two continents for information to write the first draft of the book before he died unexpectedly in 2008.
The SS Atlantic was a steamship liner ferrying travelers and immigrants from Europe to North America. In 1873 the vessel sank off the coast of Lower Prospect, taking the lives of over 500 passengers and crew, making it the worst transatlantic steamship disaster of the 19th century.
The SS Atlantic Heritage Park is preserving the gravesite of 277 of the victims of the disaster. The Interpretation Centre contains a museum and craft shop, the park a board walk and gazebo with beautiful vistas of the coastline.
Books will be available for sale at the Centre for $24.95
Light refreshments will be served
