SailGP has officially confirmed its return to Halifax in June 2026, marking a highly anticipated comeback after the city was notably absent from the 2025 season lineup. The announcement comes on the heels of the roaring success of Halifax’s debut as a host city in 2024, when thousands gathered along the harbour to watch the world’s fastest sail racing league in action.
The 2024 ROCKWOOL Canada Sail Grand Prix was one for the history books. More than 50,000 spectators took in the action from both the Halifax and Dartmouth waterfronts, with over half of the attendees coming from outside the city. Tickets for the event sold out within minutes, and hotel bookings across the region surged by more than 25 percent compared to the previous year.
Beyond the dollars and data, the races themselves were electric. Emirates Great Britain took the win in a dramatic final despite challenging winds, while fans lined the shores and packed into waterfront viewing zones to cheer on the home team. The atmosphere extended beyond the water too, with live music on Argyle Street, pop-up bars, and performances from artists like Neon Dreams and Ria Mae, transforming the city into a full-blown festival.
Frank Denis, Executive Director of Sail Nova Scotia, expressed confidence in Halifax’s future with the league: “We are looking ahead to 2026, with the confidence that we can make the event even bigger and better.”
Halifax now joins a prestigious lineup of global cities on the 2026 Rolex SailGP Championship tour, including Sydney, Rio de Janeiro, New York, Saint-Tropez, and Abu Dhabi. With a multi-year hosting agreement in place, Halifax is poised to become a cornerstone of SailGP’s North American circuit.
In 2026, expect more thrills, more fanfare, and another unforgettable summer weekend on the harbour.
