Saint John Canadian Blood Services Facility Moving Operations To Dartmouth

100_0912

In a nation-wide restructuring effort, Canadian Blood Services is moving its Saint John collection facility to Dartmouth.

CTV Atlantic is reporting that 31 full and part-time jobs are at risk with the Saint John clinic closure, and some critics are arguing that the move is counter-productive. Saint John mayor Ivan Court is quoted in the article as saying that blood collected in Saint John "will have to be shipped to Nova Scotia and then we have to import it back. It doesn't make sense."

Canadian Blood Service representatives say that they will do as much as possible to make sure that distribution is organized smoothly and there will continue to be some stores of blood in Saint John reserved in a "stockpiling unit."

Tell us your thoughts Haligonia? How efficient does this new systems seem to you?
