Sambro community transit bus approved

The Sambro community bus has been approved. The bus will run 10 times a day, serving Harrietsfield, Williamswood, Sambro, Ketch Harbour, Portuguese Cove, and Herring Cove.

The bus will travel around the peninsula where all these communities are scattered in a one-way loop. It will run one direction in the morning rush hour, and reverse directions for the evening rush hour. It will travel once an hour, and continue to travel only at peak hours. The service will run from 5:00-9:00am, and 3:35-7:35pm. As before, there will be no service on Saturdays, Sundays, or holidays.

The changes to the service will come into effect on November 21. The bus comes at a cost, however. According to a city report, “implementing this service option in November 2011 will result in a deficit of $151,000 in 2011/12, and $74,000 in 2012/13.”
